What is a nonprofit board of directors required to do? We will explore the three responsibilities to which every board member must commit to meet the core obligations of their position. The duties of Loyalty, Obedience, and Due Care may sound simple, but many prospective board members do not understand what they are signing up for when they agree to join your board. Everyone must understand these foundational expectations for your board to be effective.

How should a board operate to govern well? There are eight principles of good governance that we will explore. While the "Duties of the Board" workshop outlines what board members must do, this workshop will explore principles of how the board must operate to ensure they not only meet the basic responsibilities of their roles but also serve the organization to the best of their abilities and create a productive working environment for each other.

What is the difference between a completely adequate board and an exceptional board? This workshop looks beyond the basics and challenges the board to set high expectations for itself, evaluate its performance, and hold each member accountable.

When was the last time your board reviewed its bylaws, fiscal or personnel policies, and other  documents? Do you have the policies you need to ensure your organization is operating in compliance with regulations, provide clear direction for staff, and reduce liability? I will work with you to review your policies and procedures, identify those that may be missing or out of date, and recommend changes to ensure efficient, responsible, and fair operation.
